About This Place

Situated in the vibrant heart of San Francisco’s SoMa district, Marlowe is a standout American restaurant that artfully blends Californian flair with French brasserie elegance. This bistro and brunch hotspot offers an enticing menu that celebrates bold flavors and thoughtful craftsmanship, making it a must-visit destination for both locals and visitors craving a memorable dining experience.

The culinary offerings at Marlowe showcase a remarkable balance between comfort and sophistication. Signature dishes such as the Marlowe Burger deliver juicy, perfectly seasoned patties that melt in your mouth, accompanied by their famously crispy, herb-sprinkled fries—a classic combination elevated to art. For those seeking lighter yet richly textured options, the Local Calamari & Manila Clams present a fresh, ocean-kissed taste that bursts with briny sweetness. The Steak Tartare and Smoked Bone Marrow provide a luxurious, nuanced depth ideal for adventurous palates, while the Brussels Sprouts Chips add a delicate crunch, though admittedly they require a bit of finesse to enjoy fully.

Brunch lovers will delight in items like the French Toast Soldiers, which offer a nostalgic yet refined take on a beloved classic, or the Lavender Gin Fizz, a cocktail bursting with floral notes and bright citrus that perfectly complements the meal. Sides like the Crispy Potato Croquettes, loaded with mozzarella and housemade ranch, demonstrate the kitchen’s commitment to indulgent, flavorful accompaniments. For dessert, the Vanilla Bean Cheesecake garnished with fresh berries and toasted sesame seeds, or Maria’s Bread Pudding drizzled with bourbon caramel, provide fittingly sweet conclusions that linger in the memory.

The ambiance at Marlowe is warm and inviting, striking a harmonious balance between casual charm and polished elegance. The interior’s sleek, contemporary design coupled with attentive and accommodating service creates a welcoming environment that enhances every bite and sip. Reviewers consistently praise the staff’s attentiveness and the efficient, friendly service that makes guests feel valued and cared for.

With a location just minutes from the Giants’ stadium and downtown hubs, Marlowe also manages to maintain a relaxed atmosphere without the typical hustle and bustle, making weekend evenings and lunch stops equally enjoyable. Whether you’re in the mood for a perfectly crafted burger, a creative cocktail, or a cozy spot to unwind with friends, Marlowe confidently delivers a refined yet approachable dining experience that delights the senses and invites repeat visits.

In short, Marlowe is more than just a restaurant; it’s a culinary refuge where exquisite American and French-inspired dishes meet thoughtful hospitality. This is a place where each flavor is intentional, every texture inviting, and the overall experience leaves you with a genuine craving for more.

I was surprised at how good the food was here. We tried one of just about everything. The brussel sprout chips were probably the worst and that's just because eating the tiny chips seemed impossible. Everything was delicious. Service accomodated several changes and additions to our party. Overall an excellent experience. Oysters, scallops, lamb all fantastic. I don't even like lamb, but fall off the bone delicious.

I had lunch here as soon as they opened, service was mad fast. Food came out fast and the presentation? Was nothing short of great, I got the fried chicken sandwich with no bacon on it with fries and a salad, it is slightly pricey, but I'll tell you now they work for it. My glasses stayed full, the servers and staff is very tentative, I would recommend other try this place out because the good and service is definitely 5 star status!

Solid burger joint in a fancy diner setting. The burger was really tasty and the ice cream dessert was delicious. It’s close to Giants stadium and lots of downtown businesses but it was not too busy on a weekend evening.

So glad to see this place survived Covid. Came into the neighborhood after many years. Same vibe at Marlowe, great food, drinks & decent service. They still gave almost the same menu - their burgers are phenomenal. I ordered the salmon it was epic!

We came in for brunch and everything was so tasty. We tried the heirloom tomato, egg sandwich, infamous burger, scrambled eggs, and polenta — not a single miss on the table. My boyfriend and I often come here for date nights, and it’s just as good during the day. The food is consistently delicious, and the vibe is cozy and lively. Pro tip: make a reservation! It gets super busy, especially on weekends. Can’t wait to come back again!

Really incredible. Everything was amazing but I recommend the steak tartar with bone marrow, the pork cheeks, and the polenta. This night was special. My wife is disabled due to a terminal illness. She has a movement disorder, difficulty communicating, and difficulty doing things on her own. The staff was so accommodating. We do not get to go out to eat too often these days. They treated us like everyone else. They never made issue about getting napkin after napkin. Or picking up silverware dropped. "Normal" is important when it is difficult to have those moments. The staff at Marlowe gave us a moment. Thank you.
